THE BIRTH OF THE COMMISSION

When I first taught on the topic, the 1, 2, 3 of Salvation, many ministers quickly misunderstood me and my principle professor Dr. Samuel called me for consultation to ask if I could stop teaching on the subject of the Cross.

How could a theological institution, which has the responsibility to raise ministers for global evangelism, try to stop a lecturer from teaching about the cross of Jesus Christ? What was the matter? Either the lecturer or the institution was wrong, or both!

As a career theologian I had been ask by Grace International School of Theology to teach the doctrines of Salvation as taught by Paul in 1 and 2 Corinthians and the Book of Galatians.

As I prepared my lecture notes the Spirit of the Lord begun to ask me very simple questions: Steven, how did Jesus give salvation to the people? How did (Luke 19:9) salvation come to Zaccheaus? And how did peter give it to Cornelius the Roman? Or how did it come to Paul of Tarsus or how did he give it to other people? In short, what did these three men teach about salvation? As I reflected upon this very question, the Lord asked the next question which was equally stimulating; How does the Church today give salvation to the people (you may want to read my sermons on this subject)? After a Spirit guided study for several weeks I realized that I had gained much insight concerning this subject than I had in my ten years as a student and five years as a lecturer!

The answer was very short and clear; Luke 14:25-33 is all that anybody needed to study and get saved. But the Church has declined to agree and instead we preach a cheap “believism” which is a pervasion of Romans 10:9. Believing in trinity, one God, one Lord or His holiness never saved anybody in the Bible and James 2:19 clearly states that even the demons are believers. As the drama of “come forward and ask Jesus into your heart” continues, the Church continues to lose important opportunities to get people saved.

This controversy opened my eyes and I came to the realization that the theological institutions were not interested in God but in publishing their own opinions about God. During this difficult time I met Dr. Timothy Williams from Washington, a man whose testimony encouraged me to walk with my God rather than compromise on the word. This is how the Sound Doctrine Commission was born.

Therefore, our Missionary enterprise is based on a very simple premise; nothing but the whole truth as it is written in the Scripture (Luke 10:26) and subjected to sound exegesis in context. To be a missionary though Sound Doctrine Commission one must demonstrate the kind of discipleship and discipline that Jesus and the apostles taught and not the cosmetic “lips testimony” and “Christian Soap” appearances in the name of Jesus Christ. We seek such as have Hated all things including their own lives; them that have consciously counted and paid the Cost demanded for discipleship and taken up their  Crosses daily to follow the Lord Jesus Christ (1 John 2:6).

A Jesus who could not hate his life, and could not count and pay the cost or carry the cross to Calvary is not the CHRIST at all! Likewise any disciple who has not hated his life, counted and paid the cost and readily carry his cross daily to follow the Lord is not a disciple at all! Our goal is to surrender ourselves to be used by the Lord to raise his servants for global missionary enterprises. We are ablaze with a passion for missions that focus on the Sound Doctrine to the glory of the Lord. We have no time to publish our opinions or to follow the traditional Christianity which has been corrupted beyond imagination neither have we opportunity to allow the popularity of the present errors cower us to a compromise on God’s word.

As far as Sound Doctrine Commission is concerned, our Missionary Enterprise is not a pioneering missionary work in the scale of those who first set feet upon foreign lands to cultivate the word of God. Even though we realize that the scope of Evangelism is not complete and that there are groups around the world who have not had the opportunity to listen to the word of God, to us Sound Doctrine Commission is a mission of Restoration and Revival of the apostolic Christianity through restitution of the missing elements.

Christianity has long since collapsed and all that is left is an appearance of Godliness that is inherently lacking in power. The Gospel that Jesus taught together with the apostles has been changed and all such institutions as had been put in place by the Holy Spirit at the Pentecost have been defeated by human wisdom and theological Scholarship. There are thousands of Churches in Kenya, but there is no power of the Spirit at all! Christianity is very weak and the life of the Christian has no clear difference from those of non-believers.

This is the type of Christianity that we cannot preach or propagate at Sound Doctrine Commission and we are wholly committed to revival (Jeremiah 6:16), not the kind that you hear around; where people senselessly make noise in overnight prayer vigils, fast, seminars, conferences and all sorts of self-denials in expectation of abracadabra and open sesame results! Revival cannot be realized through such manipulations of the Holy Spirit.

Revival simply means a return to the Cross; keeping the tradition of the cross as commanded by Jesus Christ. All we need to do to achieve revival is to find out what Jesus Christ and the apostles taught about Christianity, and then follow it through the help of the Holy Spirit, period!

Revival has only two questions; where has the Church fallen from and how did the Church fall? The answers again are clear and short. The true condition of the Church can be found in the book of Acts. If we are looking for an ideal Church model, full of love and missionary passion; it is all in this book. But how did they achieve this glorious condition? It was not them working for it, but they allowed the Holy Spirit to work it through them.

Then how did the Church end up in the present morass of heresy, contradiction and multiplication of denominations, sects and cults? You might not want to believe that this is the wisdom of God (2 Thessalonians 2:10-12) in punishing the Church for digressing from the guidance of the Spirit. You want to satisfy the appeal of your fleshy conscience by calling the work of God, the work of the Devil and the work of the Devil, the work of God.

The Lord Himself has allowed the Church to be deceived and to collapse this wise because it has abandoned the path of faith and wandered after vein things. As a missionary you must know that you have a great responsibility for the truth. If you have no passion for this kind of ministry then it is in vain that you seek to be an ambassador and a steward of the mysteries of the cross. I want to encourage you to search your own heart and remove every corruption that abideth and let the Lord himself grant you Pure and Sound Doctrine.

In His Service
